Ollas (pronounced "oy-ah") are essentially partially fired earthenware containers that release water based on soil & plant root wicking tension. Typically ollas use just 10%-15% of the water that would be required by other forms of irrigation.
‌
To make the highest quality ollas possible, only the best clay is used in our Oasis Ollas. As most people already know, ‌some of the best uncontaminated clays come from Italy.
‌
Oasis Ollas are made from the highest quality 100% Galestro Italian Clay.
‌
This ensures that our Oasis Ollas are very strong, crack & frost resistant.
‌
‌Our Oasis Ollas are pressed into shape, not spun on a pottery wheel like most others! Because the clay is only semi-moist before pressing, our Oasis Ollas can be used with soluble fertilisers without clogging.
‌
‌The clay used on pottery wheels must be much wetter to allow the sculptor to easily mould the required shape. This "extra wetness" closes up many of the pores making the finished semi-fired clay unsuitable for use with liquid fertilisers.
‌
‌Our innovative Oasis Ollas are therefore suitable to use with soluble hydroponic nutrients (or simply use Thrive or Aquasol) which opens up a whole new way to reliably feed your plants without the use of any power or timers. The plants will wrap their roots around the ollas & "suck" what they need forever more.
‌
‌When it rains, the soil becomes wet. When the soil is wet, there is no soil wicking effect to suck the water out of the ollas. This is why ollas use so little water.
‌
A‌ll Oasis ollas have their top surface treated with a specialised food grade sealant. This prevents evaporation into the air from the ollas top surface.
‌
‌Oasis Ollas are made in two halves which are squeezed uniformly in a hydraulic press. This ensures the wall thickness of the finished ollas is very consistent. 
‌
A unique feature of our ollas is that when the water level falls to half, the olla only weeps from the bottom half. This encourages the plant to push ‌its roots down deeply into the soil. This helps to keep your plants roots cool and productive, even during the extremes of summer.
‌
‌Oasis Ollas are placed directly into the garden or placed into any garden pots of your choosing.
‌
‌If you are in Adelaide South Australia you can pick up your online order from our warehouse (note that pre-appointments are ‌required as many of our manufacturing processes cannot be interrupted once started).
‌
‌UPDATE: Please note, that due to poor handling by carriers, we no longer ship interstate. We only ship within metropolitan Adelaide. We no longer ship to country South Australia. Ollas are heavy and somewhat fragile. It does not seem to make much difference how well we package the ollas, some still arrive broken. So we now only ship local Adelaide shipments where the ollas are not delivered to rural or interstate carriers. In this way, one carrier cannot blame the other for breakages.
